Due to snowy and colder conditions the University of Southern Indiana closed down. Temperatures were down to the low single digits with light snowfall. Several streets including Mahrenholtz and Schutte had been partially closed due to slick roads according to USI Public Safety. There were a total of two slide-offs on campus. The Physical Plant cleared the parking lots and roads for students to drive back on campus safely. Sam Preston, the assistant director of Public Safety, says the weather will be constantly monitored due to its unpredictability. Classes and events had resumed Thursday, January 31st.
On Monday, the University of Southern Indiana held their annual Dr. Martin Luther King Luncheon in the University Center. The host, Multicultural Executive Director, Pam Hopson was excited to see over 392 people attend the event. Key note speaker Political Analyst and Best Selling Author, Donna Brazile, spoke at the 24th event. Access USI Reporter, Rachel Lowhorn discusses the high points of the event. The Director of Career Services and internships, Phillip Parker, tragically passed away unexpectedly last Monday. Parker earned his master’s degree in arts and education and his bachelor’s degree in public relations from Western Kentucky University.
